This is an exciting opportunity in Stoughton, Wisconsin for a Materials Engineering Technician Associate.Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.
Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Sample preparation and materials characterization in support of CES world-wide production and non-production engineering teams.
Perform Materials Engineering lab procedures including preparation of samples for analysis or testing with sectioning saw or other machine shop tools
Process test pieces in ovens, furnaces or environmental chambers
Determine mechanical and physical properties with hardness tester or tensile tester
Measure chemical composition with Optical Emission Spectrometer
Making distance measurements with rulers and micrometers
Fracture Analysis: Take photographs with binocular and digital microscopes
Metallurgical Analysis: Prepare metallurgical specimens using mounting press, polishing equipment and etching those samples with standard laboratory glassware and chemical reagents. Take photographs with metallographic microscope and perform image analysis
Perform or coordinate routine calibration, maintenance, trouble shooting and minor repair of instrumentation and equipment
Manage work load and lab operations including planning, scheduling, inventory management, sourcing and safe disposal of samples, testing materials and lab consumables
Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures and work instructions
Knows and complies with all safety policies and proced
High School diploma or GED required
Intermediate level requiring minimum two years of relevant experience from higher education and/or employment in related field.
Associates or bachelor’s degree from an accredited program is preferred. This may include two-year programs such as Metallurgical Technician or Metallurgical Technologist
Broad knowledge of Materials Engineering including stainless steel metallurgy is desirable.
Good verbal and written communication skills including experience with technical writing
Desire to work hands-on when conducting lab work or repairing instruments
May be required to lift up to 33 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits
Base hourly rate commensurate with experience.
