We are looking for a talented Sr. Engineer Electrical Design to join our team specializing in Engineering for our business segment in Fridley, MN or your remote home location.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Create electronic hardware that is integral to Cummins’ products. People in these positions will typically develop and validate electronic sensors, actuators, control units or harnesses to ensure the consistent operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications .Investigates electronic hardware problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members.

  • Apply and support the improvement of electronic hardware development processes and tools. Processes include, basic problem solving techniques (5 phase, 7 step, 8D or similar), familiarity with embedded electronic hardware (h/w) development process, requirements analysis. Tools include worst case analysis, circuit simulation (Saber, Cadence PSpice, or equivalent), DFMEA/PFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), schematic capture, Specification Compliance Matrix (or equivalent).

  • Obtains input and negotiates with electronic suppliers and delivers prototype hardware to application engineering teams.

  • Make decisions in the areas of hardware requirements, validation test that impact unit cost, functionality, and prototype delivery.Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems or services with a greater degree of technical complexity and ambiguity over the entry level engineer level and with greater accountability to the project team.

  • Provide independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge; engages with the improvement of systems and processes.

  • Involve minimal direct management of people, but could involve the coordination and direction of work amongst technicians and/or temporary student employees.Contributes effectively toward team goals, exhibits influence within a work group and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Ability to perform electrical circuit analysis, for both analog and digital circuits.

  • Experience with Pspice, and Matlab. (Also desired but not critical: MathCAD, and Simulink) Experience working in electric design software (Zuken, Mentor, etc…)

  • Ability to write clear test-plans based upon available equipment, help carry out the testing, and perform required analysis on the results.

  • Critical thinking and troubleshooting capabilities. Able to communicate this thinking process (FTA, 9-box, etc…)

  • Basic understanding of Power-Systems and Power distribution. Ability to read and interperet complex standards (ISO, UL, EN, SAE), and draw conclusions on the impact to the PCB and circuit design.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
