This is an exciting opportunity in Rocky Mount, North Carolina for an Instrumentation Test Technician.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:This is an Instrumentation Test Journeyperson position in the Product Engineering Lab at Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant (RMEP). The Product Engineering Lab tests diesel and natural gas engines for Emissions Compliance, Product Validation and Performance Developmental Work. The responsibilities of this role are expansive and could include engine installation and troubleshooting, building and repairing engines or supporting instrumentation and facilities systems.

  • Train with skilled journey workers under the direction of Lab Managers

  • Follow standardized processes for engine builds, teardowns, and component installations

  • Install/Uninstall engines in test cell, set-up computer based test cycles for engine performance, development, stress, vibration and emissions tests and verify in-coming data quality

  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and implement instrumentation and facility systems critical for engine testing and data measurement

  • Participate in Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives

  • Demonstrate learned skills through end of rotation skills assessment

  • Follow RMEP safety practices and procedures regarding Lockout Tagout (LOTO), Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV), Hoist and Crane, Working from Heights and Confined Space

  • Lift up to fifty pounds unassisted and greater than fifty with assistance

  • Work eight hours or more frequently, work rotating shifts (1st & 2nd) and weekend work may be required


  • High School Diploma

  • 2-5 years’ experience in a similar field or working towards a related Professional Degree

  • Comprehension of Mechanical Systems

  • High Level of Computer Literacy

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook)

  • Ability to think critically and analytically

  • Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong work ethic with the ability to prioritize work in a dynamic environment

  • Successful completion of pre-placement Skills Assessment test

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience .
