This is an exciting opportunity in Rocky Mount, North Carolina for an Indirect Materials Planner/Buyer.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

Plan the most economical flow of purchased material to ensure that production needs are met and shortages are avoided, expedite incoming materials to maintain production schedules, to meet emergency, situations and fluctuating schedules, manage inventory levels in dollars and days’ supply as stated in the company goals, manage the engineering change releases by evaluating and setting effective dates to ensure they are met, manage supply base to avoid premium freight cost for incoming components.

  • Identifies any issues with Engineering Releases and works with Engineers and Change Control to resolve issues. Ensures effect dates are submitted to Change Control. Closes Engineering Releases for VPI Materials.

  • Works with Change Control and Assembly resources to ensure Engineering Releases are fully closed, once VPI Materials has set effect date.

  • Monitor reports and action as necessary based on supplier readiness.

  • Work with production Materials Organization to ensure closure work is progressing and parts are being transferred to production Materials Organization.

  • Utilize VPI Transfer Procedures to move VPI parts from VPI to Production

  • Provides documentation within the production Materials organization to explain product structure, and applications used to look up item and option information.

  • Provides training and mentoring to new VPI employees.

  • Include Engineering and Change Control functions as it relates to VPI, to ensure efficient processing of Engineering Releases through Materials Functions.

  • Analyze /manage/ reconcile global, local, and pre-production supplier pipelines, third party warehouse data, logistical data and provide applicable feedback to suppliers.

  • Help ensure supplier capacity is in place, and the pipeline and warehouse are sufficient to support builds.


  • Demonstrated computer skills: Lotus Notes, Outlook, must be experienced with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote)

  • Require strong Organizational skills, tracking multiple active and pending projects

  • Mainframe/database skills required

  • Understanding of bill of materials required

  • Ability to run and modify reporting systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate thoughts, both written and verbally

  • Adapt and manager projects in a fast paced environment

  • Preferred 2 year technical degree with course work related to: Basic manufacturing processes, blue print reading, business writing, algebra and basic statistics. Equivalent experience may be substituted for a 2 year technical degree.

  • Required working knowledge of: Blue print reading (visualization and interpretation), Engineering Standards retrieval and basic interpretation, and basic math (algebra, basic statistics)

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience.
