Job Summary: The Production Supervisor is primarily responsible for supervising team members in the Cummins Power Products assembly and warehouse departments. The supervisor is responsible for maximizing profitability, growth, and the overall success of the department. Ensures all safety and quality processes are being followed. Focuses on removing obstacles that prevent achieving production targets. Recognizes bottlenecks in process and quickly acts to keep the flow going. This position may be required to work flexible shifts depending on order demand.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise team members assigned to assembly, light fabrication, and prototype build processes. Hires, trains, and reviews team members.

  • Model and promote safe work habits and procedures, and ensure compliance with Cummins standards and applicable government regulations. Administer JSA (Job Safety Assessment) audits on schedule set by the Operations Manager.

  • Establish the weekly and daily production targets with the Operations Manager. Communicate the targets to the assembly team and establish the daily plan to hit the goals.

  • Maintain build sequence/status boards, assembler assignments and visual communication tools. Measure and report on effectiveness of team activities.

  • Provide material handling requirements to ensure cohesive plan for the right material to arrive at the right place and the right time to meet the production plans.

  • Provide information to Materials/Schedulers by compiling and analyzing production performance records and data; answering questions and responding to requests.

  • Work with Engineering department to get resolution to design problems that are affecting production.

  • Establish and maintain positive, productive working environment for production team members, through fair and consistent administration of personnel policies and procedures.

  • Promote 5S and cleanliness of the department.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives with internal teams and our suppliers.

  • Maintain working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • 5 years of experience supervising in a manufacturing environment.

  • Associates degree or five years of experience in engine, mechanical, or assembly environments, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

  • Union personnel experience.

  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook) and willing to learn appropriate Cummins systems and processes.

  • Proficient at reading engineering drawings.

Responsibilities:

Supervises the daily activities of a production unit or teams.

Responsible for the daily activities of a production team including managing team members, housekeeping, and meeting production targets.

Work cross functionally to improve safety, productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations.

Serves as group lead on projects and work assignments.

Provides guidance and feedback for team members in accomplishing tasks and goals; sets expectations and clarifies responsibilities.

Coaches and mentors team members.

Makes recommendations to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations.

Emergency Management And Response - An emergency is any unplanned event that can cause deaths or significant injuries to employees, customers or the public. An emergency can also be an event that can shut down business, disrupt operations, threaten the facility's financial standing or public image, or cause physical or environmental damage. Emergency management is the process of preparing for, mitigating, responding to, and recovering from an emergency. Minimum elements for consideration in an emergency management system are: direction and control, communications (internal and external), life safety, property protection, community outreach, recovery and restoration, administration and logistics, emergency response team, and strategic emergency management committee. Understanding of emergency response includes knowledge of incident command systems, development of a written response plan, protective equipment, emergency action plans, escape procedures, reporting procedures, and hazard assessment. Understands and applies techniques related to incident command systems, protective equipment, escape procedures, reporting procedures, and hazard assessment

Incident Investigation - The method of reporting the occurrence of an occupational injury/illness, near hit, or property damage. Incident investigations determine how and why these failures occur. Employees should be able to perform a thorough, effective incident investigation including root cause analysis, 5-why analysis and development of effective corrective actions. Knows and understands the components of an incident investigation and can participate in team investigation.

Labor And Employee Relations - Labor and Employee Relations is a broad field encompassing all interchanges between employers and employees. Possesses a working knowledge of serving as an employee advocate. Understands the impact of employee relations on unionization, employee absenteeism and turnover, the potential for litigation, and credibility between management and employees. Implements programs and tools that influence the organizational culture and ensure fairness and consistent treatment of employees, consistent feedback mechanisms and communication programs such as surveys, skip level interviews, employee participation committees, and communication meetings. Has taken part in problem solving procedures, counseling for issues, and management and supervisor training.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university or equivalent degree, or high school diploma or equivalent education and experience required.

Experience

Intermediate level of supervisory experience required.
