Manager, Business Development


Directs Growth Office projects that (a) Use internal and external engagement to identify new growth opportunities, operational efficiency improvements and potential disruptions to CMI business, (b) Develop strategic frameworks to evaluate such opportunities and create optionality for CMI, and, (c) foster disciplined innovation process across Cummins to manage the growth ideas that do not fit other defined Cummins business processes.

Leads multiple Growth Office projects.

Engages with external entities as well as the internal organization to identify ideas that (a) are potential growth opportunities for Cummins (b) offer significant efficiency improvements (efficiency, quality, cost) over existing operational processes, or, (c) maybe potential disruption to Cummins business due to technology, policy or other macro-trends.

Develops strategic framework of qualitative and quantitative analyses for evaluation of identified opportunities using Design Thinking guidelines of Desirability - Feasibilty - Viability. Applies strategic frameworks to analyze opportunities and create optionalities; synthesizes environmental data, stakeholder analysis, and market force data as a part of the financial and business analysis necessary to develop insights and solutions to support strategic business decisions.

Fosters and promotes disciplined internal innovation process for such ideas that do not fit in existing core business processes.

Provides the face of CMI with external organizations to gather information and coordinate the evalation.

Works closely across CMI organization to execute projects.

Communicates complex strategy topics clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences through both written and oral communication.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

Masters degree in Business Administration or equivalent degree preferred

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.


Broad and intermediate level relevant work experience required. Significant Cummins experience preferred. The experience could be across different functional areas, such as technical, financial, Supply Chain, etc.

  • Exceptional communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to build excitement and support for growth targets and opportunities

  • Successful relationship manager with ability to understand diverse motivations and influences and identify ways to build win/win partnerships and comfortable bringing multiple parties to a consensus solution
