This is an exciting opportunity in Galesburg, Michigan for a Next Gen Electronics Systems Engineer.Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects.
The person in this position will lead electronic systems development for the next generation electronic control module utilized on Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission platforms.

This applied technology, developing leadership position creates electronic hardware that is integral to transmission products. People in these positions will typically develop and validate electronic sensors, actuators, control modules or harnesses to ensure the consistent operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications.
Investigates highly difficult or specialized electronic hardware problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results.
Creates, manages, improves and applies electronic hardware development processes and tools. Processes include basic problem solving techniques (5 phase, 7 step, 8D or similar), design for EMC robustness, design for manufacturing, familiarity with embedded electronic hardware development process, requirements analysis. Tools include worst case analysis, circuit simulation (Saber, Cadence PSpice, or equivalent), DFMEA/PFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), schematic capture, PCB layout (Mentor Graphics, Zuken, or equivalent), Specification Compliance Matrix (or equivalent).
Obtains input and negotiates with electronic suppliers, systems engineering, and software teams.
Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of hardware architecture, electrical design, and mechanical design that impact functionality, unit cost, and schedule.
Responsible for review of less-experienced developers/testers’ work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design.
Responsible for coaching and developing the next generation of technical experts.
Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.
Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within the business unit or managing improvement across business units.
Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).
Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members.
Skills and Experience Required:
Design and Application of Digital Electronics - Specifies components and architectures of electronic control units; applies electronic control units in transmission products.
Mechanical Design of Electrical Systems - Creates electrical system or electronics-based design or architecture concepts through specific knowledge of electrified (or electrical-based) systems to ensure a system design that adheres to both Eaton Cummins and customer expectations.
Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
Product Verification and Validation Management - Coordinates the development of design verification and system validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes while managing risk and relative priority; evaluates analytical and experimental test results following engineering principles to verify that products meet internal technical requirements and to validate that design solutions meet customer needs; produces recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.

Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s).
Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
Specialized knowledge of Electronic System architectures for automated transmission products
Electronic control module development experience from industries such as automotive, commercial vehicle, aerospace, agriculture, industrial equipment or power generation.
Ability to create detailed electronic hardware requirements tailored for internal and external (supplier) review.
Experience with sensor, actuator, and control module integration on electric, hydraulic, or pneumatically controlled transmission systems.
Ability to define control module technical strategy and maintain broad knowledge of available and emergent technology, market drivers and future needs.
Experience with translating customer requirements into technical requirements and/or interface agreements.
Systems level knowledge of common automotive or commercial vehicle datalink communications and protocols (J1939).
Experience with industry standard practices such as iDFMEA, APQP and PPAP.
Experience with facilitating cross-functional planning and review forums.
Experience with functional safety best practices such as ISO26262 or industrial/ aerospace equivalent.
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications
College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering required.
