Technician III


A Test Systems Technician III works closely with others to help with instrumentation and test equipment. They have intermediate technical skills and knowledge of the equipment and products. They start to coach others who are less experienced.

  • Responsible for assembly, set up, calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation and test equipment.

  • Lead the collection of prototype material.Fabrication and build of prototypes (including test fixtures) and validation of engineering drawings. Provide feedback on assembly to engineers/stakeholders.

  • Perform routine and complex tests on test equipment.Collect, analyze and interpret data per approved test plan.Make necessary adjustments (equipment, instrumentation, etc.).Review data to find any abnormalities to ensure quality.

  • Draft test reports to include findings, conclusions and recommendations. Review this with Lead Technician or manager for approval. Present information to engineers/stakeholders.

  • Independently troubleshoot and diagnose common test cell problems.

  • Identify and lead improvement projects (quality, safety, customer satisfaction) for the department/team. Evaluate alternatives and make recommendations for innovations that impact the business. Participate in Kaizen Events as assigned.

  • Follow correct safety procedures (i.e., tools, equipment, lifting, guards, protective equipment, etc.). Work safely and ensure the safety of others in the work area.

  • Complete other work as assigned.


  • Minimum Associates technical degree in engineering, computer science or related field from an accredited program

  • Intermediate technical experience

  • Knowledge of diagnoses and test cell problems, maintenance and calibration of test equipment

  • Knowledge of quality and reliability principles

  • Intermediate understanding of engines, alternators, controls, and enclosures.

  • Intermediate instrumentation skills and knowledge

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (communicating to internal and external customers, peers, stakeholders, etc.)

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)

  • Programming of data acquisition systems is required and a major part of this role.

  • Use logistics equipment to aid in performing work as required.

  • Travel <5%.
