Qualifications

This is an exciting opportunity for Product Design Engineer - Technical Advisor #MN148 in Fridley, Minnesota

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Apply highly specialized knowledge of engineering principles and practices across various areas and projects in the design, development, analysis and release of products and subsystems through the product life cycle.

  • Create design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service.

  • Utilize cross-functional knowledge of manufacturing processes to support line changes including outsourcing, machining, and assembly.

  • Assemble a comprehensive list of design verifications and validation tasks including Design Verification Planning and Reporting (DVP&R) that must be completed for new product programs.

  • Verify design using analysis and/or functional testing, interpret results, drive decisions and assess risk.

  • Utilize Design of Experiments (DOE) tools to achieve manufacturing cost savings by minimizing process variation and reducing rework, scrap and the need for inspection.

  • Utilize Tolerance Stack up Analysis for evaluating part’s manufacturability in order to reduce the need for costly prototypes while designing components.

  • Provide technical leadership to service and application engineering organizations for customer problem resolution and to worldwide engine manufacturing plants to support product design and quality issues through application of Six Sigma Methodologies including Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).

  • Apply technical expertise on complex components or projects and provide technical direction.

  • Organize the project details and ensure tasks are assigned accordingly to meet deliverables by deadline using Project Management techniques.

  • Propose innovative initiatives and apply the Systems Definition and Design process including requirements allocation and architecture, capability determination through system modeling and testing including Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).

  • Troubleshoot complex problems, identify risk areas and prioritize actions necessary to mitigate risk through knowledge of Product Risk Management.

  • Evaluate the impact of design, serviceability and reliability to the final product and utilize these principles to design the product from concept, prototype to final product.

  • Use experience with Product Integration, Verification and Validation for component, system, performance and acceptance testing.

  • Work and communicate with other engineering disciplines and cross functional teams to resolve product issues.

  • Evaluate customer needs and align requirements with identified customer expectations. Collaborate with product, reliability and other related engineering groups to ensure requirements are met while managing execution at new product launch.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

  • Positions require a Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience as a Systems, Product, Validation or Design Engineer, or related position or a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience as a Systems, Product, Validation or Design Engineer, or related position

JOB SITE: Fridley, Minnesota

WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
