Qualifications

This is an exciting opportunity for Material Science Technical Advisors #TN111 in Cookeville, Tennessee.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Lead investigation of complex material and material processing problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action and documents results.

  • Create, manage and improve methods such as material and material processing validation, quality auditing, design validation and 7-step problem solving.

  • Apply specialized knowledge of materials science with engineering principles and practices, to identify and advance solutions for design, manufacturing and quality problems.

  • Utilize material testing, non-destructive testing, mechanical and physical properties measurement, simulation and statistical data analysis to enable higher quality decision making.

  • Utilize basic and advanced chemical and elemental lab test technology to drive innovation and provide technical direction for a project team on the characterization of physical, mechanical, chemical, and microstructural properties.

  • Analyze specimen physical and chemical properties using applicable laboratory equipment and Component Failure Analysis to identify failure mode and mechanism.

  • Characterize materials and substances based on aforementioned analysis techniques, relating their specific attributes and relevance to the product needs and application.

  • Evaluate component requirements regarding form and function in order to identify base material and processing options, select manufacturing route, material and process based on best-fit options aligned to requirements.

  • Utilize Composite and Bonding Science to develop process and product specifications taking base materials, bonding materials and bonding equipment into account to ensure sufficient and consistent quality.

  • Apply failure analysis to provide technical direction for project team to collect forensic, manufacturing, and service data to determine root cause and deliver short/long term measures.

  • Apply Principles of Surface Engineering including material surface modification techniques to increase the durability and chemical resistance of components through material selection, formulation and modification of surface chemistry that improves performance in multi variant environments including chemical, thermal and mechanical stress.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications:

  • Position requires a Master’s degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering, Biotechnology or related field and 3 years of experience as a Materials or Metallurgical Engineer, or related position.

  • Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering, Biotechnology or related field and 5 years of experience as a Materials or Metallurgical Engineer, or related position.

JOB SITE: Cookeville, Tennessee

WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
