Qualifications

This is an exciting opportunity for Thermal and Fluid Sciences Technical Specialist - #IN749 in Columbus, Indiana

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Utilize the core competencies of thermal and fluid sciences including Principles of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer and Principles of Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems to advise on the design of engineering and power systems.

  • Work cross-functionally with engineers in roles focused on combustion, performance and emission; cooling, lubrication or fuels systems; systems or after-treatment integration; vehicle system, combustion system, flow lab, engine controls, or combustion system simulation.

  • Solve product problems using the 7 Step Process, determine the assignable cause, implement robust, data-based solutions, and identify systemic root causes and recommend actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

  • Utilize extensive experience with System Requirements Engineering to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed, establish acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis.

  • Define the system of interest by drawing the boundaries and identifying its context within its environment, analyze linkages and interactions between elements that comprise the system, predict the system’s behavior, and devise modifications to it in order to produce the desired effects.

  • Drive decisions and create technical content which leads to state of the art, highly effective, environmentally friendly, and competitive products.

  • Calibrate and validate engine performance models with GT-Power, and assess experimental data quality by utilizing Matlab/Simulink and AVL Concerto based tools.

  • Perform Design of Experiments (DOE) with GT-Power to optimize engine performance and identify sensitivities of dependent variables of interest to the independent variables that are varied.

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to compare and identify best practices related to engine performance modeling.

  • Thermal and fluid sciences

  • Principles of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer

  • Principles of Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems

  • 7 Step Product Problem Solving Process to identify root causes

  • System Requirements Engineering

  • Systems Definition

  • GT-Power, Matlab/Simulink and AVL Concerto

  • Design of Experiments (DOE)

  • Engine performance modeling

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

  • Position requires a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Thermal and Fluid Science, Mechanical, or CPE Engineer, or related position.

  • Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience as a Thermal and Fluid Science, Mechanical, or CPE Engineer, or related position.

JOB SITE: Columbus, IN

WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
