This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Systems-Software Lead. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading projects.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

Serves as group lead on projects and work assignments in the following elements.

This may include one or more of the following:

  • Developing the electrical and electronics specifications Designing electrical and electronic systems and components.

  • Analyzing and simulating electrical and electronic capabilities. Implementing and generating software. Verifying and validating controls, hardware, or software. Tuningcontrols. Releasing controls, hardware, or software. Troubleshooting controls, hardware, or software issues. Servicing and maintaining controls, hardware, or software. Managing life-cycle obsolescence Design and Analysis of Electric Generators/Alternators and motors, Electrical Circuit Design, Performance simulation of Electrical Power Systems. Electrical and Electronics includes all electrical and electronic elements within the system: Open and closed loop controls. Diagnostics and OBD. Algorithms. Electrical and Electronic control modules and relatedmicrocontroller architectures. Electronic devices. Embedded software. Sensors and switches. Actuators, mechatronics, electricmotors, alternators/generators and relays. Ignition systems. Battery systems. Electrical and Electronic tools and information products. Electrical and Electronic tool interfaces. Interconnects and harnesses. Datalinks and communication networks. Machine electronics interfaces.

  • Leads a small technical group with minimum supervision.

  • Provides guidance, sets expectations, clarifies responsibilities, and provides feedback for project team members in accomplishing tasks and goals.

  • Participates as a key contributor and assigns work to meet group commitments.

  • Influences at department or program management level.

  • Provides input on program-related decisions.

  • Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.

  • Contributes to the solution of complex technical problems; provides resources, removes barriers and ensures application of common approaches.

  • Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.

  • Identifies developmental needs of group members.

  • Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Significant level of relevant work and experience required. Five or more years’ experience in a similar discipline expected.

  • Some manager experience needed.

  • Lead the global software/system team, set the aim and direction to the team.

  • Interface and establish relationships with customers including both technical and non-technical points of contact.

  • Work closely with architect to understand the architecture.

  • Work with customers to come up with requirements and timelines.

  • Track the development work closely with developers and ensure the software is developed as per the designed architecture.

  • Complies with tool software development processes and work flows for all the work items and supports work flow improvements projects.

  • Coordinates the deployments of the software.

  • Programming Languages - C , Objective C, JAVA

  • Operating systems – Android/iOS/. Some experience in Windows/Unix OS

  • Database systems and concepts - Oracle/MySQL/ similar

  • Network protocols - HTTP/SFTP/CAN/SAE J1939

  • Strong experience in C /JAVA/iOS/Android SDK

  • Experience in Mobile GUI design (Some exposure to 'User Experience')

  • Software product engineering and software life cycle

  • Software configuration management practices, methods and tools

  • Must have good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to effectively work as part of a global team

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities

  • Self-motivated and able to perform with minimal supervision

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience .
