This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Software Engineering Leader - API and Integrations role. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Manages a group of intermediate level IT employees.

  • Participate as a key member of an IT Management Team.

  • Responsible for financial management including AOP, budget management, and forecasting.

  • Responsible for People Management including work plan development, performance management, and people development.

  • Responsible for team building and development including organization structure, recruiting, global team management.

  • Compile and present Management Reports on team performance including metrics, deliverable status, etc. Communicate status to senior management.

  • Accountable for Six Sigma training, usage and goal attainment for the team.

  • Ensure team adherence to all IT processes, policies, and procedures including IT Security. Responsible of IT Controls compliance for the team

  • Engagement with customers in their respective function or business area.

  • Governance/Leadership for all program/projects executed or supported by their teams.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

University, or equivalent degree in Information Technology, Business or a related subject required. Masters' degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred.

Experience: Significant level of relevant work experience, including supervisory experience, required. Broad business knowledge required. Relevant Information Technology IT experience required (10 – 12 years), including software development management experience working with senior leadership team;

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in definition and development of APIs, multi-tier web services, messaging Systems & Protocols, API managers and microservices architectures required. Advanced competency in OOD, data structures and complexity analysis. Programming experience in Java/J2EE technologies

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Integration architecture, design and development services including understanding of multiple integration platforms, infrastructure and related monitoring and maintenance tool sets both on premise and on cloud (e.g.Mulesoft, Oracle SOA, Dell Boomi, Apiary, Apigee etc.)


  • Minimum of 5 years of managing large scale software development groups following Agile development processes. Experience with Dev Ops and Agile Methodology including Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is desired; Communications, Customer/Stakeholder/Vendor Management, Finance Management for large, global teams;

  • 2 years of experience in API Management, iPaaS/Cloud Integration implementation experience (Azure and/or AWS) including API gateways and API management tools API policy management; Experience designing, interpreting, and analyzing API runtime analytics, knowledge of Cloud Architecture, Cloud Security; Cloud platforms and REST API Model, Services Security required

  • Experience in leadership roles either as a direct manager or matrix manager leading multi-disciplinary teams working on simultaneous projects preferred;

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Establishes, designs & implements for API First, API driven architecture.

  • Understands and promotes principles of a decoupled architecture and how to apply them will help developers deliver reusable, extensible, flexible, scalable, reactive, resilient & integrate able multi experience applications.

  • Design, implement & manage development methodologies for API delivery. Promote continuous quality improvement, cost reduction efforts across the APIs, integration practices, understand & introduce new capabilities.

  • Design & Development of coding standards and practices; Responsible for building global teams for API development & lead the efforts to federate API development globally across functions, ABOs, business unit IT teams.

  • Lead coach & promote modern coding methods to teams across the globe and set up communities of practice to promote best software engineering and coding practices.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
