This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, Indiana for a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.
Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Selects, develops, manages, and ensures defect-free performance of the business' supplier base with the objective of overall quality improvement.
Leads processes to drive improvements. Resolves supplier quality issues.
Participates in supplier evaluation, selection, and strategic sourcing process development.
Responsible for the supplier corrective action process including containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
Ensures suppliers use quality tools effectively.
Works with supplier to ensure all product requirements are met.
Oversees the supplier quality resources for new product introduction and current products to reduce supplier related issues, improve process capabilities, and ensure timely project launches.
Responsible for determining if all requirements are met by the supplier for new or changed products.
Measures supplier quality performance according to established procedures; drives appropriate improvements to meet established targets.
Facilitates continuous improvement activities to reduce defects.
Skills and Experience Required:
Aiag Core Tools Expectation - AIAG Core tools are seen as being fundamental in support of the automotive preferred quality system ISO/TS 16949, and delivering satisfactory product quality.
Basic Quality Tools - Use of Basic Quality Tools includes the ability to understand what quality tool is appropriate, ability to apply the Quality Tool, and the ability to analyze the data that results from use of the tool. Simple tools include Pareto analysis, histograms, control charts. More complex tools include tools such as Design of Experiments and Quality Function Deployment.
Problem Solving And Quality Improvement - Problem Solving and Improvement approaches, including understanding of tools/process type and selection, plus Corrective and Preventive Action processes.
Intermediate level of relevant work experience as a Supplier Quality Improvement Engineer (SQIE) required. Previous experience with Rotary, Powered, Mechatronic (RPM) electronics greatly desired
Intermediate to expert knowledge of:
The Supplier Quality Improvement function including VPI SQI / APQP, IATF 16949 embedded software and related quality system expectations, measurement & layout, problem solving including assigning cause via Fault Tree Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, and product reliability, durability and related warranty processes.
Numerous components categories within the Rotary, Powered, Mechatronic (RPM) electronics and related industries including (but not limited to): smart exhaust gas recirculation valves, ignition coils, spark plugs, electronic valves, smart turbocharger actuators, solenoids, electronic governors, pneumatic actuators, starter motors, alternators, natural gas fuel system control valves and related systems, Electronic Control Modules, and fluid injection dosers.
The manufacturing processes for the items above including but not limited to printed circuit board (PCB) sub components and related supply chain processes, leaded and lead-free PCB processes including solder paste application, SMT process, reflow oven systems, and AOI, motor and solenoid winding / manufacturing, motor / generator related technology, electronic part assembly processes, and functional in-process reliability performance tests.
Related manufacturing processes that support the various RPM component manufacturing processes including but not limited to aluminum casting & machining, vacuum casting impregnation processes, powdered metal and related gear machining processes, laser and TIG welding processes, heat treatment, gaskets, various plating and coatings, brazing, cleaning, leak testing, non-destructive testing, and related processes and methods.
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, working with design control suppliers from concept through to product realization including design, manufacturing, service, repair, rebuilding, and reconditioning, including the use of technical profiles within the direct material supply chain.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject required.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
