We are looking for a talented Senior Electronic Systems Technical Advisor – Hardware to join our team specializing in Cummins Electronics and Fuel Systems for our Component Business Segment in Columbus, IN.
Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
This applied technology, developing leadership position creates electronic hardware that is integral to Cummins’ products. People in these positions will typically develop and validate electronic sensors, actuators, control units or harnesses to ensure the consistent operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications .Investigates highly difficult or specialized electronic hardware problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results.
Creates, manages, improves and applies electronic hardware development processes and tools. Processes include basic problem solving techniques (5 phase, 7 step, 8D or similar), design for EMC robustness, design for manufacturing, familiarity with embedded electronic hardware development process, requirements analysis. Tools include worst case analysis, circuit simulation (Saber, Cadence PSpice, or equivalent), DFMEA/PFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), schematic capture, PCB layout (Mentor Graphics, Zuken, or equivalent), Specification Compliance Matrix (or equivalent). Obtains input and negotiates with electronic suppliers and software development teams and delivers prototype hardware to application engineering teams.
Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of hardware architecture, electrical design, and mechanical design that impact functionality, unit cost, and schedule.
Responsible for review of less-experienced developers/testers’ work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design
Responsible for coaching and developing the next generation of technical experts.Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.
Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
University, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience (7 plus) in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s). Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
In addition to the above qualifications the candidate will have:
Experience in designing electronic hardware in real-time powertrain control systems.
Extensive experience in digital and analog circuit design principals.
Deep understand of the application of electronic powertrain control systems in commercial vehicle and industrial equipment.
Deep understanding of the operating principles and common failure modes of electronic powertrain control system in commercial vehicle and industrial equipment applications.
