This is an exciting opportunity TColumbus Indiana for a PEM Fuel Cell Technical Leader. In this opportunity you will do the following:

  • Directs the overall application of a single-discipline engineering function including one or more of the following areas: combustion/performance/emissions, cool/lube/fuel systems, air handling, system integration, after treatment integration, cycle simulation, vehicle system simulation, combustion system simulation, flow simulation, filtration, or after treatment simulation.

  • Leads and directs a technical group or technical program.

  • Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and to address areas of deficiency.

  • Formulates strategies and aligns functional areas to achieve organizational goals.

  • Influences business-area leadership decisions.

  • Fosters the development of processes, tools and people.

  • Makes critical and authoritative decisions; resolves highly complex issues.

  • Develops and manages budget, financial controls and risk; ensures operations are executed efficiently and within established budget.

  • Works with employees to establish their individual development and career plans; mentors and coaches.

  • Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.

Ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders, business leaders, and technical leaders within and outside of CMI.

Ability to gather information from a variety of sources to create technology road maps.

Ability to create a funding stream and manage it.

Ability to set up a strong global network associated with developing a technical support structure to support an emerging fuel cell business.

Ability to writing proposals to secure funding.

Ability to engage external funding agencies to fund critical work to develop fuel cell technology.

A business innovation acumen for identifying novel business opportunities.

Ability to work globally in an efficient and effective manner.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

PhD, Masters of Science, Bachelor of Science, or equivalent technical degree required.

Experience

  • Build the initial PEM fuel cell group

  • Lead this group to coordinate the various activitiesneeded to deliver the demonstration projects and inorganic growth initiatives thatare presently underway or currently planned.

  • Lead programs to develop balance of plant designs for PEMfuel cell systems targeted at Cummins specific applications in collaborationwith technology partners.

  • Create a strong partnership with the Growth Office andbusiness leaders to gain insight into the development of new business modelsand innovative applications of the technology to support the introduction ofthe fuel cell technology.

  • Strategize customer use opportunities and understand howthe fuel cell technology could evolve to provide value from a customerperspective.

  • Create a PEM fuel cell technology roadmap to guide theresearch plan for internal and inorganic initiatives that will deliver the fuelcell technology to the businesses within the anticipated time frame.

  • Create the financial plan required to deliver thetechnology roadmap and ensure that the funding is included in the appropriatesimulation and annual operating plans of R&T, the Growth Office, and thevarious supporting businesses.

  • Grow the R&T group as required to deliver thetechnology roadmap.

  • Establish strong relationships with the global NationalLabs, Universities, and Industry in order to monitor the fuel cell technologydevelopments.

  • Sponsor and potentially fund activities at these sites inareas that will create value and IP positions for CMI.

  • Develop an external funding stream to supplement the internalfunding sources.

  • Leverage the R&T matrix organizations to develop and providethe skill sets that are needed to support these activities.

  • Develop a set of metrics that clearly communicateprogress toward creating a business opportunity for Cummins.

Compensation and Benefits

Base annual salary commensurate with experience plus annual variable compensation.
