This is an exciting opportunity for Materials - Chemist Technical Specialist #IN744 in Columbus, Indiana
Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Combine specialized knowledge of chemistry with engineering principles and practices, to identify and advance solutions for design, manufacturing and quality problems.
Work with cross functional teams on projects that require material selection, failure analysis, material characterization, interpretation and writing of specifications.
Evaluate product quality inspections, material process quality audits, material process development, production process validation and material property data.
Initiate the evaluation and implementation of beneficial emerging material and material processing technology.
Utilize basic and advanced chemical and metallurgical lab test technology to drive innovation and provide technical direction for a project team on the characterization of physical, mechanical and chemical properties.
Apply chemical failure analysis to provide technical direction for project team to collect forensic, manufacturing, and service data to determine root cause and deliver short/long term measures.
Analyze and interpret characterization information and data related to materials and substances based upon results of analysis techniques including identifying atomic structure, nano-scale compositions, surface morphology and surface chemistry as relevant to the sub-discipline.
Foster, improve, maintain and offer guidance towards process and product continuous improvements.
Review and validate mechanical test results and metallographic examinations done by lab technicians, and train new employees on laboratory equipment.
Establish departmental development plans, coach and motivate employees, provide guidance and direction on resolving problem and issues.
Work with lab technicians to establish individual development and career plans, assess performance and provide feedback.
Skills and Experience Required:
Identify and advance solutions for design
Product Quality Inspections, Material Process Quality Audits, Material Process Development, Production Process Validation and Material Property Data
Implementation of beneficial emerging material and Material Processing technology
Chemical and Metallurgical Lab Test Technology
Chemical failure analysis
Analyzing and interpreting characterization information and data related to materials and substances
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications
Positions require aPhD degree in Materials, Chemical/Chemistry or Metallurgical Engineering, or related fieldand1 year of experience as aThermal & Fluid ScienceEngineer, Metallurgist, Scientist, Research or Materials Engineer or related position.
Alternatively, the employer will accept aMaster’s degree in Materials, Chemical/Chemistry or Metallurgical Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience as aThermal & Fluid ScienceEngineer, Metallurgist, Scientist, Research or Materials Engineer or related position.WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Compensation and Benefits
Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
