This is a highly visible position which requires interaction with Leaders and Executives including the following -BU Vice President, On and Off-Hwy General Managers, Supply Chain Leader, Purchasing Leader, Catalyst Sourcing Director, and R&D Catalyst Engineering Team Members.
Responsible for multiple global “A-Level” strategic suppliers with multi million dollars of annual spend.
Leads purchasing and sourcing strategies supporting Cummins Emission Solutions. Provides leadership to cross-functional teams to resolve complex business issues. May manage regional purchasing teams. Defines project scopes, mitigates, risk, and identifies savings opportunities across Emission Solutions.
Requires Excellent Organizational, Communication, and Presentation skills required to influence and implement supplier strategies that meet business needs while reducing the cost and mitigating risk for the Cummins Emission Solutions organization.
Ability to lead teams by providing coaching, mentoring, and employee development to a small team and Quality Engineers.
Able to build alliances with Global Purchasing Team members and develop category strategies while understanding regional market variation.
Lead global risk mitigation activities such as capacity assessments, business continuity plans, and New Product Introduction program implementation needs.
Must be capable and motivated to be very responsive to internal and external stakeholder needs while thriving in a fast paced, competitive, and time constrained work environment.
Interested in having a thorough understanding of complex catalyst technologies that are directly impacted by global emissions regulations. This knowledge would be applied to create sourcing strategies to meet these regulations.
Manages sourcing and purchasing strategies aimed at reducing cost, minimizing risk, and optimizing business processes.
Determines and helps businesses manage demand and supplier capacity.
Manages regional, commodity, and/or new product purchasing teams.
Promotes alignment of purchasing strategy with business unit and supply chain goals.
Identifies, plans, and implements continuous improvement opportunities within the supply chain.
Builds strong relationships with key suppliers.
Validates sourcing and contract activities of sourcing teams.
Fosters communication among key purchasing stakeholders across business units and functions.
Drives total cost reductions across the entire supply chain.
Establishes purchasing target process and oversees teams’ delivery against those targets.
Identifies opportunities and leads continuous improvement activities within key processes.
Leads, manages and coaches teams; provides active feedback and delivers recommendations for training and development opportunities among staff members.
May also support procurement as it relates to new product development. Implements policies and metrics to ensure the best combination of cost, quality and delivery.
Analyze issues - Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of analyzing issues. Critically identifies an issue's scope and parameters while analyzing it from multiple perspectives. Determines the root causes as well as broad implications of issues. Integrates information and defines an array of alternatives. Applies a wide variety of analytical tools and processes (e.g. Six Sigma) on a regular basis to complete key projects and solve complex problems.
Manage execution - Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of managing execution. Coordinates performance across regions, teams, and departments on complex projects and work flows. Applies a broad range of planning and monitoring tools. Defines planning and review practices that result in few missed milestones and minimal surprises. Effectively delegates to ensure completion of complex projects and work. Monitors progress of others and redirects efforts when goals change or are not met. Measures effectiveness of execution through defined metrics and disciplined monitoring.
Contract development - I have developed contracts across several similar commodities or services that incorporate standard and non-standard language with limited engagement from Legal.
Negotiation with suppliers - I understand negotiation theory and tactics; I understand the commodity or service for which I am responsible, Cummins absolute business requirements, the supplier's TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and the potential trade-offs; I develop the strategy for and lead negotiations with suppliers to consistently deliver contracts that are easily managed by functional owners and operations.
Purchasing ethics - I understand appropriate and harmless supplier engagements and do not compromise supplier sourcing, selection, or management processes. I am able to apply judgment to potentially questionable relationships and activities and am confident that I make appropriate decisions in each case. I provide consultation / support that conforms to Cummins standards to others in my area but am not knowledgeable outside the countries in which I have worked for at least three years.
Supplier capacity mgmt - I understand Cummins marketing forecast processes and the data required for suppliers for which I am responsible to ensure that capacity planning is accurate; I understand how to appropriately negotiate capacity requirements in supplier contracts to deliver the lowest total cost of ownership. I comprehend the interrelationship between capacity management and product quality. I take appropriate actions with suppliers to ensure that they are capable of meeting Cummins total demand for both production and aftermarket.
Sourcing process - I understand the steps in the sourcing process; I have developed relationships with my functional stakeholders so that I am now sometimes involved in a project when a business need is identified. I understand the discipline and process associated with industry, market and category analysis; I assimilate the available data to develop performance metrics and create a TCO (total cost of ownership) pricing model. I am capable of analyzing supplier financial risk, using standard resources (such as Dun & Bradstreet reports and other similar tools). I fully engage my functional stakeholders to define the business, technical and qualitative requirements and can accommodate differences in competencies and expectations so that supplier responses may be evaluated objectively.
Product cost management - User proficiency plus, significant experience in product costing, including ability to train and/or mentor this skill. The specialist should have solid experience developing piece-part cost models and knowledge of the typical manufacturing processes involved in producing parts. (e.g. castings, fabrications, machining processes, injection molding, etc.)
Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university or equivalent degree in a related business field such as supply chain management.
5 – 8 years of relevant work experience required.
Past supply chain experience desired - global experience preferred.
Ability to travel outside of the United States required.
Enjoys working in a global environment which requires support outside of normal business hours.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
