This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for an Embedded Software Security Tech Advisor. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

  • This product focused, developing leadership position performs established technical tasks at the product and cross-business integration level for current and future products within a given business unit or corporate area. This involves work across many steps in the product life cycle. Because of the product centered nature of this position, they are very often a central point of coordination and decision making between product engineers, product line engineers, customer teams, purchasing, suppliers and manufacturing.

  • Obtains input from stakeholders such as technical managers, project leaders, other product and manufacturing engineers and supplier partners to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions.

  • Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of technology integration, design, analysis and experimental test verification and validation for both new a current products that impact product form, functionality and overall project risk trade-offs.

  • Creates, manages, improves and applies processes such ESW, iDFMEA, FIRG and tools such as 7-step problem solving, design review checklist and other specialized tools required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.

Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.

  • Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.

  • Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.

  • Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).

  • Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members. May also include academic or industry collaboration in a competency or discipline area.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.

Experience

  • Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering role on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.

  • Lead development of Cummins Engineering Standards, Design Practices, Functional Excellence Practices, and Engineering Standard Work for cybersecurity covering the entire electronics ecosystem – sensors, control modules, embedded software, and electronic tools.

  • Follow the PPT process in delivering the cybersecurity projects to identify NUDs and address appropriately.

  • Guide product development teams to ensure cybersecurity considerations are designed into Cummins Electronic products – including supporting the team on analysis and assessment of proposed designs as well as current product.

  • Identify security threats and develop appropriate protection measures.

  • Review proposed changes for security implications and recommend improvements.

  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of communication networks including CAN, TCP/IP, WiFi, and Bluetooth.

  • Participate in security incident response process to evaluate reported field issues and drive through a seven step process to mitigate the security vulnerabilities.

  • Sustain broad knowledge of available and emergent technology, market drivers, and future needs with regards to cybersecurity

Compensation and Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience plus bonus.
