Battery Modelling & Controls Manager
We are looking for a talented Battery Modelling & Controls Manager to join our team specializing in engineering for our New Power Business Unit in Columbus, IN / your remote home office.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Develop the careers of your assigned team enabling them to make an impact on battery technology development
Create product differentiation for our battery systems by use of models and control/estimation theory
Build the battery modelling and controls group as a strategic capability in battery technology
Accelerate the commercialization of new battery technologies by driving breakthroughs in modelling and controls
Establish Accelera as the premium brand in battery systems for commercial vehicles by virtue of superior controls which deliver augmented daily missions and exceptional durability
Delight our OEM customers with world-class battery systems which enable their vehicles outperform competitor vehicles
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
3 years’ experience developing Li-ion battery estimation algorithms with at least one successful commercial deployment life cycle
Exceptional communications skills, written and verbal, with ability to present the work of your team to senior management and customers
Automotive industry domain experience, including experience developing controls compliant with ISO26262/ASPICE
Experience in high voltage battery systems including high voltage system testing
Education, Licenses, Certifications
PhD or MS in an engineering or science discipline with a thesis topic that has some relevance to chemical systems modelling and controls/estimation
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s). Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
You are a confident subject matter expert in battery controls and modelling. You are most fulfilled by a responsibility set which is a mix of individual contributor and group leader, and live by the principle of “building success in others”. This position carries full management authority for a small team whose primary mission is to develop models and algorithms for new battery chemistries, both fully embedded and offline assisted. Newly formed as an independent team, and positioned for growth, it’s supported by a well-established and mature experimental electro-chemistry team. The output of this team is delivery of physically validated algorithms in sufficiently low order of complexity to run robustly on standard commercial BMS platforms.
Requirements:
MS/PhD with thesis topic in Li-ion battery algorithms, controls, or modelling
Minimum of 3 years’ experience developing Li-ion battery estimation algorithms with at least one successful commercial deployment life cycle
Modelling and algorithm coding skills in Matlab
Automotive industry domain experience, including experience developing controls compliant with ISO26262/ASPICE are a plus
Experience in high voltage battery systems including high voltage system testing is a plus
Experience in large-scale (>200kWh) battery systems is a plus

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
