Cummins is looking for an extraordinary Upfit Technician in our Ankeny, IA location. This technician will support various levels of engine package assemblies. This role will test, install, and troubleshoot both Cummins engines and Cummins-designed components and assemblies. Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Basic computer and math skills, MS Office experience required

  • Ability to communicate and work well with other employees and customers

  • Ability to adapt to new assembly and manufacturing methods

  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computer

  • Current driver’s license (CDL beneficial)

  • Assist in other areas of the facility and learn the use of other tools and equipment

  • Assist in lean processes such as 5S, preventative maintenance, and standard work creation

  • Help maintain a safe and clean work environment

  • Complete all required training and other duties as assigned

  • Endorse and actively support all aspects of Cummins’ safety policies and procedures.

  • Endorse and actively support Cummins’ Customer Support Excellence (CSE) efforts.

  • Complete required shop paperwork and processes including work orders and quality checklists.

  • Accurately follow build instructions and submit change requests when necessary.

  • Support efforts of other departments such as Quality, Engineering, and Sales as needed. Internal and External customer support and collaboration required

  • Some travel may be required.


Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Manufacturing experience an advantage, associate’s degree (A.A.) or technical school degree preferred


  • 2-4 years related experience in equipment or machine manufacturing preferred


  • Required to lift 95 pounds from floor height for a single repetition.

  • Required to lift 50 pounds from waist height to a 6 foot height.

  • Required to perform 10 repetitions of lifting 50 pounds from floor to waist level.

  • Required to push a weighted sled with a force of 120 pounds for a distance of 20 feet.

  • Required to pull a weighted sled with a pulling force of 120 pounds for a distance of 20 feet.

  • Will be subject to some diesel exhaust fumes.

  • Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience .
