Your impact will happen in these and other ways:


  • _ Assists with the plan, design, purchase, and implementation of machining processes and equipment in an industrial plant.

  • _ Determines parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals such as setup reduction and changeovers according to product specification; works with engineering to identify problems with product and performance and recommends solutions or enhancements.

  • _ Assists with the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.

  • _ Performs equipment engineering design evaluations and documents results; may recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.

  • _ Work to improve equipment availability and capability by utilizing continuous improvement tools and working cross functionally.

Skills and Experience Required:

Equipment / Capital Procurement - Understanding the requirements for purchasing tools and equipment according to Cummins Production Equipment Specifications. Capital purchases require the approval of a Request for Capital Appropriations (RFA) which includes justification of the project from a financial/ strategic standpoint and must be completed in a specific format defined by the documented procedure. Working knowledge of the Cummins Production Equipment Specifications. Has initiated the purchase of tools and equipment. Understands the difference between capital and expense purchases. Experienced at writing Request for Capital Appropriations.

Computer Numerically Controlled (Cnc) Programming - Fundamental understanding of Cartesian and Polar co-ordinate systems; basic manufacturing engineering processes; and metal removal processes. Is able to program in fundamental program languages. Able to understand programming codes and is able to operate equipment through a CNC control panel.

Tool And Fixture Design - Understanding and application of work piece holding devices in conjunction with the metal removal processes being employed. Able to actuate a work holding device and can insert/remove a piece part from the fixture. Understands what needs to be cleaned and cleared for operating a fixture

Fundamentals Of Safety - Comprehensive knowledge of occupational safety and health compliance, including federal regulations for general industry. Detailed understanding of how the provisions of the local workplace health and safety legislation may be implemented, rights and responsibilities under the legislation, the appeals process, recordkeeping, and voluntary protection programs. Understanding of general industry standards and the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards. Also includes knowledge of basic safety concepts such as personal protective equipment, behavior based safety, confined space entry, etc. Understands safety regulations, and applies appropriate tools and methods to ensure compliance.

Process Layout - The ability to develop process layouts which encompasses all equipment, tooling and material flows necessary to provide for an effective Product Assembly process. The process layout should be completed using AutoCAD and should be to scale, including all process steps while accounting for Safety, Quality, Ergonomics, Throughput, and Product cost. Has participated in several workstation designs as part of a cross functional team.

Fundamentals Of Manufacturing - Basic competence in the body of knowledge as defined by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for a Certified Manufacturing Technologist (CMfgT). The body of knowledge includes the following areas: Mathematics, Applied Science, Process Design, Materials, Manufacturing Processes, Manufacturing Management, Manufacturing Economics, Quality Control, Computer Applications, and Automation. Working knowledge of the Fundamentals of Manufacturing. More than 2 years of experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer, but not yet a Certified Manufacturing Technologist (Society of Manufacturing Engineers), or local equivalent).

Process Documentation - This skill involves being able to properly document a process. Process documentation defines the sequence in which to perform process steps, along with the specifications for the process that are important to follow to ensure a quality and consistent output is produced. Used process documentation to perform a work task or manufacture a product. Can write process documentation for a manufacturing process or an administrative process with the information provided. Understands the important specifications that must be defined to ensure that the process yields the desired outcome.

Problem Solving And Quality Improvement - Problem Solving and Improvement approaches, including understanding of tools/process type and selection, plus Corrective and Preventive Action processes. A CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) and/or have 2 years experience in this role. Able to lead problem solving efforts. Including the use of a variety of problem solving tools such as 7 Step, FMEA and Kaizen.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science (or equivalent degree) in Engineering preferred

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience .
