Job Description:

Lab Ops. Engineer - Emissions

  • Applies basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices to assigned tasks. Assists in specification, design and maintenance of test environment and instrumentation in support of product development and evaluation requirements. Assists in developing laboratory-controlled test processes to evaluate product performance. May conduct experiments, analyze data and document results. Works collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to meet new requirements.

  • Uses prescribed and innovative methods, and works with limited guidance.

  • Participates as a team member and actively contributes towards team goals.

  • Carries out partially defined and moderately complex tasks.

  • Demonstrates good understanding and applies knowledge of an engineering discipline.

  • Applies engineering and/or scientific skills and continues to develop experience in creating engineering solutions.


  • Job Duties:

  • Provide recommendations to emissions lab personnel and management to solve complex test and data acquisition issues

  • Work constructively one on one with test customers to answer questions regarding equipment capability, accuracy, reliability, and repeatability

  • Participate, and occasionally lead MUA research for emissions related equipment

  • Develop methods and instruct emissions and instrumentation personnel on performing 40CFR.1065 checks and recording the results

  • Work independently to select and test equipment to be used for emissions data acquisition in the test cells

  • Occasionally lead morning huddles for instrumentation and emissions labs and update assignments boards to keep the workflow moving (help cover for vacations or off-site meetings)

  • Continue existing emissions measurement projects, or reevaluate them and provide recommendations for completion or closure

  • Stay up to date with the day-to-day work of the emissions lab personnel so as to be able to develop improvements to our existing processes

  • Potential for direct managing a small number of hourly reports.SkillsProject Management - Familiarity with the basic elements of project managementComputer Based Data Acquisition - Able to select and configure appropriate computer based data acquisition equipment for a given measurement requirement. This role requires a working understanding of data acquisition principles including amplification, filtering, resolution, sample rate, and aliasing.Fundamentals Of Measurements - Able to select the best sensor and signal conditioning equipment from an standard inventory for a requested measurement. Able to install sensors in a manner that will achieve accurate results. Must understand concepts of measurement range, precision, accuracy, and traceability.Test System Design And Diagnostics - Able to set up and configure standard test equipment. Must have a solid understanding of sensors, computerized data acquisition and control systems, and how to select appropriate components for a given test requirement. Able to tune controls to achieve stable operation.Innovate - Generates new ideas; goes beyond the status quo; recognizes the need for new or modified approaches; brings perspectives and approaches together, combining them in creative ways.
