Testing and analysis of engine and engine related components for stress, strain, fatigue, noise and vibration work that involves conventional engineering practice, but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties.
Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects and works under minimal supervision Leads small projects or portions of large projects.
Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.
Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.
Influences at department or program management level.
Provides input on program-related decisions.
Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.
Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.
Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.
Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.
Skills and Experience Required:
Six or more years of experience in focused areas of technical expertise such as engine/generator components or sub-systems, structure stress analysis, finite element analysis, or design.
This position is for a trained professional in experimental data acquisition and interpretation, in the Power Systems Applied Mechanics organization in Seymour, IN. Applied Mechanics group provides technical leadership and support for the Value Package Introduction (VPI), Current Product Support (CPS) across all Power System platforms 2, 3, and 4.
Measuring and analyzing vibration, strain, and other data on running engines in test cells or in customer applications or component test rigs.
Knowledge in digital signal processing techniques to analyze vibration data.
Fundamental knowledge on modal analysis, modal frequencies and shapes, engine order excitation.
Conducting fatigue tests with servo-hydraulic or electro-dynamic fatigue rigs.
Develop and implement specific plans for the advancement of analytical and experimental capabilities with an emphasis on mechanical vibrations.
Familiarity with engineering tools including ANSYS, LMS, and MATLAB is a plus.
Skills in experimental data analysis to correlate FEA models.
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
Compensation and Benefits
Base hourly rate commensurate with experience .
