Cummins is looking for an extraordinary Service Technician Intern in New Hudson, MI. The Service Technician Intern position will allow an opportunity for exposure to working in an actual service branch. The Service Technician Intern will comply with both company and union policy and possess a basic set of tools to perform simple repair tasks. The Service Technician will adhere to their defined educational objectives to allow a successful and productive working experience

  • Follow established work objectives defined and developed between educational institution and Cummins Bridgeway.

  • Maintain safe work environment in accordance with Cummins Bridgeway and customer guidelines.

  • Obtain diversified hands on work experience while assigned to company employee.

  • Ability and use of hand tools on specialized company equipment.

  • Assembly, disassembly, cleaning and inspection of product.

  • Exposure and assistance to basic troubleshooting and failure and analysis.

  • Understand and complete various shop paperwork, including time reports and work orders.

  • Maintain good communications between customer, fellow workers, and service supervisor.

  • Participate in keeping shop area clean at all times

  • Participate with keeping company vehicle clean and in good repair at all times.

  • Possess ability and willingness to learn new product and processes.

  • Successfully complete all Cummins required training courses on a timely basis.

  • Must be able to deliver awesome customer service.

  • May be assigned to work in the field on a temporary basis.

  • Other duties, as assigned.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty following both company and educational objectives. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience :

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Enrollment in industry related vocational programs.

Skills and Abilities :

  • Basic theoretical and practical knowledge of exposed product.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to positively react and adapt to ever changing environment, process and people.

  • Must be able to follow instructions and perform work in a timely fashion.

  • Pleasant and professional demeanor with employees and customers.

  • Neat appearance.

  • Must possess ability and willingness to learn new product and processes.

  • Mechanically inclined.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills with customer and supervisor.

  • Natural desire to provide world class customer service on a consistent basis.

  • Must be able to adhere to strict safety guidelines.

  • Must be able to submit to random drug testing.

  • Self starter, highly motivated, results driven, requiring minimal direct supervision.

  • Ability to operate and perform basic computer functions

  • Punctual and ready for work at start of shift.

Physical Demands :

  • Standing for long period of time (up to 50%).

  • Sitting (5%).

  • Twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing (up to 50%).

  • Lifting, routinely up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 100lbs, with assistance.
