Product Engineering Leader

Description

Manages single discipline staff engaged in various engineering projects and assignments. Applies advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the design, development, analysis and release of products and subsystems through the product life cycle. Manages the creation of design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service. Verifies design using analysis and or functional testing, interprets results, drives decisions and assesses risk. Works with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional disciplines to resolve product issues. Evaluates customer needs and aligns requirements with identified customer expectations. May fill the role of a subsystem team leader, concurrent engineering team leader or a local technical functional excellence leader.

Leads a medium size technical group and works under broad direction.

Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and to address areas of deficiency.

Influences business-area leadership decisions.

Manages financial controls and risk, ensuring operations are executed within established budget.

Identifies issues, problems, and opportunities to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Formulates employee and department development plans for transferring technical knowledge.

Coaches and motivates employees; provides guidance and direction on resolving problems and issues.

Delegates and assigns work, considering employee skills and development needs.

Advises leaders regarding the identification and resolution of complex problems.

Works with employees to establish their individual development and career plans.

Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.

Qualifications

Skills

Design Integration - Performs design integration at an advanced level. Proficient in the application of design integration in a wide range of work situations, able to lead the application and train/ coach others in the development of design integration skills/knowledge.

Resource Plan Management - Significant experience in resource plan management including ability to train and/or mentor this skill.

Team Development - Has the user proficiency and has significant experience in team development. Is able to train and/or mentor this skill.

Communication - Written And Verbal - Significant experience in written and verbal communication and should be capable of communicating effectively to all levels within and outside the company.

Conflict Management - Brings conflict and disagreement into the open and facilitates the resolution process while maintaining a constructive working relationship. Effectively works through complex conflict situations.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

PhD, Masters of Science, Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in engineering required.

Experience

Substantial relevant work experience required, including leadership of a small technical group.

Previous experience in a union manufacturing environment is desired but not required
