This is an exciting opportunity in Memphis, TN for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading projects.
Thinking Beyond your desk includes:
Manages the planning, designing, purchasing, and/or implementation of integrated manufacturing assembly or fabrication processes in a manufacturing plant.
Manages Manufacturing and Industrial Engineers and related departmental activities; establishes performance standards; formulates staff development plans; coaches and motivates staff; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates work assignments considering employee skills and development needs.
Manages significant change initiatives in the facility.
Identifies training needs for team and line employees, conducts training; coaches and trains line employees on new manufacturing processes and methodologies.
Identifies opportunities to support continuous improvement initiatives including capital and capacity planning; drives change in the department.
Provides technical consultation and advice to staff and project teams.
Skills & Experience Required:
Capital Project Management/Reporting - Understanding the requirements for purchasing tools and equipment according to Cummins Production Equipment Specifications. Capital purchases require the approval of a Request for Capital Appropriations (RFA) which includes justification of the project from a financial/ strategic standpoint and must be completed in a specific format defined by the documented procedure. Thorough understanding of the Cummins Production Equipment Specifications. Significant experience in purchasing tools and equipment. Has written significant Request for Capital Appropriations (over $100K).
Vpi (Value Package Introduction) - Basic competence in the body of knowledge as defined by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for a Certified Manufacturing Technologist (CMfgT). The body of knowledge includes the following areas: Mathematics, Applied Science, Process Design, Materials, Manufacturing Processes, Manufacturing Management, Manufacturing Economics, Quality Control, Computer Applications, and Automation. Certified Manufacturing Technologist (Society of Manufacturing Engineers), or local equivalent). 3 or more years of experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer.
Manage Execution - Assigns responsibilities; delegates to and empowers others; removes obstacles; allows for and contributes needed resources; coordinates work efforts when necessary; monitors progress. Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of managing execution. Coordinates performance across regions, teams, and departments on complex projects and work flows. Applies a broad range of planning and monitoring tools. Defines planning and review practices that result in few missed milestones and minimal surprises. Effectively delegates to ensure completion of complex projects and work. Monitors progress of others and redirects efforts when goals change or are not met. Measures effectiveness of execution through defined metrics and disciplined monitoring.
Continuous Process Improvement - This skill involves Cummins Operating System (COS) Practice 2 -Synchronized Flows. Continuous Process Improvement works to eliminate waste, improve quality, and reduce production time and cost by using Continuous Process Improvement tools. Its focus is the reduction of the 7 wastes (Over-production, Waiting time, Transportation, Over-processing, Inventory, Motion and Scrap). Has extensive experience using continuous process improvement methodologies. Able to lead continuous process improvement projects and train others in continuous process improvement methodologies. Able to recognize continuous process improvement opportunities quickly using past experiences and training.
Problem Solving And Quality Improvement - Problem Solving and Improvement approaches, including understanding of tools/process type and selection, plus Corrective and Preventive Action processes. Needs no guidance with regards to this skill and can apply it in a wide range of work situations. Able to train others in problem solving.
Innovate - Generates new ideas; goes beyond the status quo; recognizes the need for new or modified approaches; brings perspectives and approaches together, combining them in creative ways. Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of innovation. Seeks to define new and improved processes even when there are no overt problems. Leads projects or initiatives involving a significant design or innovative component. Generates innovative ideas and solutions to problems affecting customers (internal or external). Takes appropriate risks -- stretching beyond the apparent. Plans for a broad range of perspectives, including those who typically disagree, and engages them in creative ways. Works to overcome barriers when selling and implementing innovative ideas and approaches.
Coach And Develop - Accurately assesses strength and development needs of employees; gives timely, specific feedback and helpful coaching; provides challenging assignments and opportunities for development. Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of coaching and developing. Guides other leaders on the use of coaching and developing skills Coaches direct reports and others through serious performance problems or major skill building. Dedicates significant time to structured and planned work in this area. Consistently on the look out for stretch assignments and development experiences for direct reports and other key talent Has a reputation for being a strong developer of others.
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline is required.
Compensation and Benefits:
Base salary commensurate with experience and bonus. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
