Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Manages the planning and execution of the preventive, predictive, and condition based maintenance of production equipment.

  • Manages Maintenance Engineers and related departmental activities; establishes performance standards; formulates staff development plans; coaches and motivates staff; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates works assignments considering employee skills and development needs.

  • Partners with Facilities, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering on problem identification, trouble shooting and equipment issue resolution and repair.Identifies training needs for team and line employees, conducts training; coaches and trains line employees on new maintenance processes.

  • Identifies opportunities to support continuous improvement initiatives; drives change in the department.

  • Provides technical consultation and advice to staff and project teams.

Qualifications

  • Asset Utilization Management - Method of management of equipment which incorporates business objectives such as asset availability, product quality and overall equipment efficiency (OEE). Incorporates output to drive business decisions regarding staffing, equipment replacement / rebuilds, and redundant plant. Utilizes metrics such as Maintenance cost as a percent of RAV (replacement asset value), stocked indirect material, repair parts, and operational supplies as a percent of RAV. Capable of calculating OEEs. Uses OEE data in decision making regarding improvements in maintenance plan versus equipment renovation. Utilizes Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) data to adjust maintenance plan. Uses efficiency data and utilization data to influence decisions.

  • Equipment / Capital Procurement - Understanding the requirements for purchasing tools and equipment according to Cummins Production Equipment Specifications. Capital purchases require the approval of a Request for Capital Appropriations (RFA) which includes justification of the project from a financial/ strategic standpoint and must be completed in a specific format defined by the documented procedure. Thorough understanding of the Cummins Production Equipment Specifications. Significant experience in purchasing tools and equipment. Has written significant Request for Capital Appropriations (over $100K).

  • Fundamentals Of Manufacturing - Basic competence in the body of knowledge as defined by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for a Certified Manufacturing Technologist (CMfgT). The body of knowledge includes the following areas: Mathematics, Applied Science, Process Design, Materials, Manufacturing Processes, Manufacturing Management, Manufacturing Economics, Quality Control, Computer Applications, and Automation. Working knowledge of the Fundamentals of Manufacturing. More than 2 years of experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer, but not yet a Certified Manufacturing Technologist (Society of Manufacturing Engineers), or local equivalent).

  • Establishes Plans - Develops short- and long-range plans that are appropriately comprehensive, realistic, and effective in meeting goals; integrates planning efforts across work units. Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of establishing plans. Uses structured tools, processes and systems to plan initiatives and document work clearly. Ensures objectives for projects or initiatives are clearly linked to corresponding activities for effective execution. Solicits customer feedback to incorporate into planning process. Demonstrates the ability to plan initiatives across multiple teams/organizations, ensuring goals are consistent and aligned. Identifies critical constraints to executing plans and develops strategies to deal with the constraints. Prepares highly complex estimates of budget, staff, and other resources.

  • Motivate Others - Encourages and empowers others to achieve; establishes challenging performance standards; creates enthusiasm, a feeling of investment, and a desire to excel. Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of motivating others. Establishes challenging performance standards and communicates them in a way that creates buy-in. Demonstrates considerable skill in motivating people when they lack confidence. Developed a reputation for creating a positive and productive work environment while focusing on bottom-line results.

  • Contractor Management - The method of managing contractors is an extension or supplement to in-house resources. Dispenses and reviews subcontractor éÌÙs handbook, reviews Cummins safety and security procedures, incident reporting procedures. The creation and communication of the project plan (work instructions) to the contractor, the tracking of work performed, equipment modified, updates of drawings, etc. Extensive experience using the standard operating procedures. Can communicate with contractors regarding the contractor's manual and site safety procedures. Can assure the proper permits have been obtained and that a job plan with clear deliverables has been created prior to the start of work.

  • Manage Execution - Assigns responsibilities; delegates to and empowers others; removes obstacles; allows for and contributes needed resources; coordinates work efforts when necessary; monitors progress. Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of managing execution. Coordinates performance across regions, teams, and departments on complex projects and work flows. Applies a broad range of planning and monitoring tools. Defines planning and review practices that result in few missed milestones and minimal surprises. Effectively delegates to ensure completion of complex projects and work. Monitors progress of others and redirects efforts when goals change or are not met. Measures effectiveness of execution through defined metrics and disciplined monitoring.

  • Project Management - Capable of effectively managing complex projects with little to no guidance

Experience

  • 5 plus years of experience industrial manufacturing experience, including supervisory experience, required. Position will have approximately up to 25 direct reports.

  • Responsible for LOTO (Lock out Tag Out) across organization; understanding, training and enforce compliance

  • Develop and maintain a good preventative and predictive maintenance system to assure machine uptime.

  • Coordinate the plant’s surplus equipment storage area. Work to make Cummins as profitable as possible.

  • Know and enforce the Machine Tool Spec in ATF. Work to resolve work flow, equipment, personnel or other issues when necessary to support plant objectives.

  • Understand and support TS16949 Initiatives, specifically around equipment FMEA’s. FTA and A3’s

  • Active engagement and leadership in driving and promoting Operational Excellence objectives and associated improvement plans.

  • Support of 5S program to drive continual improvement.

  • Use Maximo work order system, set priorities, track completion of work orders and develop Reliability Centered Maintenance, ensure spares are available (facilitate proactive maintenance vs reactive maintenance).

  • Experience with a continuous assembly line & assembly processes.

  • Knowledge of controls systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, tool design and machining processes.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree required.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience plus annualized bonus potential.
