This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, Indiana for a Wireless Engineer. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading Engineer projects.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Provides system operational support ensuring the effectiveness, efficiency, accuracy, and availability of systems for end users. Coaches and mentors less experienced team members.

  • Performs routine maintenance, facilitates customization and changes to, and ensures system disaster recovery for systems.

  • Leads new employee technology setup, including computer setup and delivery and system access.

  • Resolves issues not readily evident and performs authorized changes and upgrades to existing systems.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on IT systems and networks; monitors system performance and accuracy.

  • Performs complex root-cause analysis to identify issues.

  • Coaches and mentors less experienced security analysts; documents knowledge and solutions for use across the organization


  • Technical Troubleshooting - Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for anticipating, recognizing, and resolving technical (hardware, software, application or operational) problems

  • IT Incident Management Process - Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for anticipating, recognizing, and resolving technical (hardware, software, application or operational) problems

  • Hardware/Networks/Operating System Interaction - The ability to understand the basic tenets of the physical IT system and that system's relation to the application

  • Production Support - Experienced in multiple aspects of production support processes, including monitoring and troubleshooting customer response and physical security.

  • IT Change Management Process - Ability to systematically control changes to Information Technology (IT) systems and maintain their integrity and traceability throughout their life cycle.

  • Analyze Issues - Understands complex concepts and problems and identifies how they relate to key processes

  • IT Architecture - Knowledge of concepts and philosophies regarding the design and deployment of information technologies and associated architectural concepts, principles and tools.


  • 3 – 5 years of wireless infrastructure support/network support in a large company environment preferred

  • Experience with Cisco wireless solutions including 5508 and 5520 WLCs, and Prime

  • Experience with Cisco MSE or CMX and Cisco ISE preferred

  • High familiarity with Cisco wireless product lines including AP models as well as antenna options

  • Experience with wireless survey tools (such as Ekahau or AirMagnet)

  • Individual will be the lead within our network engineering team for wireless environment. They will be responsible to improve and maintain our wireless networks around the world and ensure proper support from regional and remote operations teams.

  • Individual will work with our Business Unit IT partners to build better wireless infrastructures for platforms being used in our global manufacturing and warehousing locations. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Work to improve the stability of our wireless network throughout all Cummins locations by optimizing our wireless settings and understanding what each feature/change does in our environment.

  • Work to improve our wireless network for specific technologies that are used within our Business Unit IT organizations, such as RF Scanners.

  • Work to better support end user issues within the wireless space, assist remote operations teams in better understanding how to troubleshoot wireless issues and perform root cause analysis when required.

  • Train offshore Operations teams as well as regional support teams to ensure they are up to speed on new hardware, current standards and new technologies we are testing and/or implementing.

  • Manage our wireless refresh roadmap by working with our chosen service provider to ensure the following:

ü Proper hardware selection is chosen to meet the demands of our customers and to future proof Cummins as much as possible

ü Regions are properly informed of deployment schedule and what they are refreshing in the upcoming months/year

ü Manage the deployment schedule to ensure installs and cut overs are completed on time with minimum impact to the business

ü Proper surveys are completed to ensure coverage at all sites being refreshed

ü Assists with cost/benefit analysis when investigating purchase and development decisions.

  • Determine if new wireless technologies are needed within our environment and provide business cases to support those needs.

  • Improve our regional capability, globally, to perform local wireless surveys as needed.

  • Provide technical applications expertise and advice as a team member to project teams and other support teams.

  • Provides assigned application solutions and set-ups that support the Cummins business processes where possible.

  • Conducts analysis of potential solutions; diagrams and documents solutions.Identifies gaps in the application functionality and provides solutions

  • Analyzes and evaluates applications; provides technical direction and recommendations to improve application utilization.

  • Sees new wireless solutions through the plan/test/implementation phase’s

  • Understands required integration with other applications - Financials, E-commerce

  • Leads resolution to gaps that involve multiple systems inconsistencies functionality globally

  • May coach less experienced team members on solution and documentation methodologies.

  • Performs and documents functional testing of new releases of the assigned applications.

  • Responsible for application technical functional specifications for assigned projects.

  • Works with application supplier support and in-house support to fix software bugs and escalated issues.

  • Develops expertise in emerging application functionality.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree in Information Technology, Business or a related subject preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience plus annualized bonus potential.
