This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Senior Engineer - Catalyst Performance and Diagnostics.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Applies basic knowledge of chemistry and its related industrial processes in conjunction with engineering principles and practices to identify and advance solutions for design, manufacturing and quality problems.

  • Works with cross functional teams on projects that require material selection, failure analysis, material characterization, interpretation and writing of specifications, product quality inspections, material process quality audits, material process development, production process validation and material property data.

  • Recognizes and promotes the application of beneficial emerging materials and materials processing technology.

  • Uses prescribed and innovative methods, and works with limited guidance. Participates as a team member and actively contributes towards team goals. Carries out partially defined and moderately complex tasks.

  • Demonstrates and applies good understanding and knowledge of chemistry to support lines of business.

  • Applies chemistry skills and knowledge and continues to develop experience in creating engineering solutions.

Skills and Experience Required:

2-5 years of relevant work experience required.

Employee will be primarily responsible for:

  • Conduct experimental evaluation of diesel exhaust aftertreatment catalysts.

  • Construction and maintenance of the reactor and analytical tools as needed.

  • Work with hourly technical staff to execute the laboratory testing.

  • Elucidate catalyst functions.

  • Determine performance, evaluate durability, identify failure mode and suggest recovery solutions.

  • Introduce new after treatment component technologies through the established process.

  • Evaluate operational strategies.

  • Documentation and presentations to internal and external customers.

  • Develop detailed understanding of chemistry & kinetics to support device-level model development.

  • Work closely with catalyst suppliers at a detail level to communicate Cummins catalyst needs and identify candidate catalyst formulations.

  • Develop diagnostics procedures for evaluation of catalysts from engine testing and the field.

  • Work closely with internal customers to support after treatment systems R&D and to understand future after treatment system requirements.

  • Maintain currency in the key areas of diesel exhaust after treatment, including familiarity with literature and competitive information.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

Bachelor of Science, or equivalent degree in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience .
