This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Senior Communications Specialist. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading projects.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Responsible for managing specific communications projects, programs, or initiatives.

  • Supports communications projects and events as they relate to assigned area.

  • Analyzes and understands key performance metrics including web metrics and surveys.

  • Supports the management of internal and external communications including press releases, video, newsletters, and corporate presentations.

  • Manages the communication activities including technical and/or promotional material writing, product manuals, brochures, etc. Interacts with business partners to develop and implement integrated communication plans.

  • Supports the brand communication research and supports the brand strategy and guidelines.

  • Coaches and mentors less experienced Communications Specialists; may supervise less experienced Communications Specialists.

Skills and Experience Required:

Leadership: Identifies and implements effective processes and procedures for accomplishing work. Ability to create an atmosphere in which timely and high quality information flows smoothly between self and others; encourages the open expression of ideas and opinions. Ability to analyze issues by gathering relevant information systematically and considering a broad range of issues or factors. Ability to develop plans that are thorough, realistic, and effective in meeting goals. Ability to manage the performance of self and others through the use of structured tools and effective delegation.

Technical: Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination of techniques and methods. Ability to create an overall message for consistent communications related to a specific topic. Ability to manage the entire process of the creation of marketing collateral, including brand positioning. Ability to coach suppliers on how to be acceptable/better suppliers to Cummins. Ability to plan sequenced tasks and assignments with appropriate allocation of resources. Ability to effectively and clearly communicate in both written and verbal means. Ability to anticipate customer needs and take action to meet these needs.

Participate in Corporate Communications meetings and team activities, develop a deep understanding of various Envision Cummins communication tools and expertise, ensure that Envision Cummins communication work is aligned with Corp Communications direction and has full use of the tools, expertise and capabilities. Provide input to process improvement opportunities and internal communications strategy.

Partner with Steering Committee and Corp Communication Team to create and maintain a thorough communication plan for Envision Cummins

o Support Execution of Compelling Message and Communication Plan

o Manage/coordinate all EC Blogs – videos, writing, editing, posting

o Own EC Public Community and leadership team community redesign and ensure alignment of message and look across all capability and support group communities

o Management of EC overview materials

o Effective branding

o Simplicity and portability of messaging


o Draft quarterly EC all employee communication (PPT) updates and year end message update

o Maintain and update overview materials and communities, ensuring content is consistent and up to date

o Create simple graphics, PPTs and wikis as needed and coach those within EC on how to do – coach on communication delivery as well as content

o Manage key stakeholder management document –track to ensure meetings are held and themes of feedback or captured and actioned appropriately

  • Ability to develop graphics, images, or other elements from an idea, words, or an engineering model.

  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in communications, journalism, or a related subject required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience plus annual variable compensation plan.
