This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Performance Engineering Technical Specialist. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Applies specialized knowledge of engineering principles and practices across various areas and projects in one or more of the following areas: combustion/performance/emissions, cool/lube/fuel systems, air handling, system integration, after treatment integration, after treatment integration, cycle simulation, vehicle system simulation, combustion system simulation, flow simulation, filtration, or after treatment simulation.

  • Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects and works under minimal supervision.

  • Leads small projects or portions of large projects.

  • Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.

  • Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.

  • Influences at department or program management level.

  • Provides input on program-related decisions.

  • Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.

  • Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.

  • Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.

  • Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required, such as responsibility for several components of a project or a complex component of a project. 3 years of experience.

  • Position calls for experience on current product support on engine/CPE related issues

  • Able to effectively utilize problem solving tools such as 7-Step process & fault tree analysis as well applying design robustness tools such DFMEA, critical parameter management, 9-box, etc.

  • Able to function in a test cell environment, creating and executing test plans and post-processing the test cell data. Able to work thru day to day test cell activities, coordinate with lab operations and trouble shoot issues say on measurement equipment (e.g. instrumentation, Cyflex, emissions, HSDA), and able to maintain high test cell utilization.

  • Able to generate and effectively identify key DVP&Rs tasks, along with being able to own/lead executions of tasks stemming from ESW requirements

  • Capable to manage short project timelines and able to communicate effectively with end-user customers and key stakeholders

  • Projects will be heavily focused on engines with <19L (diesel, spark-ignited gaseous fuels or gasoline) and power generation applications (markets ranging from rental, recreational vehicles, marine auxiliary, standby generators, etc)

  • Carries, at minimum, knowledge on product and calibration release process

  • Has strong conceptual understanding of 6Sigma and able to leverage statistical analysis tools

  • Effectively uses project management tools (RACI, schedule creation, action item tracker, etc)

  • Able to lead by example, and mentor less experienced engineers. Opportunity to manage employees in the future.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree required.

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience .
