This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, Indiana for a New Product Aftertreatment Integration Technical Specialist. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • _ This posted is position for a CC02 for the Aftertreatment Performance Integration Team, specifically MD ATI VPI. Stakeholders expect knowledge in a wide variety of expected system performance for each catalyst element DOC/DPF/SCR/AMOx and complimentary aftertreatment components with and interacting with the aftertreatment system. The individual must be knowledgeable with any and all associated direct and indirect failure modes, and how to tune the system to leverage this knowledge. This person should be capable to demonstrated delivery of calibration and testing results with solid thought process as it relates to aftertreatment systems. Additionally, this person should demonstrate ownership and resolution of technical challenges with only minor infrequent guidance from manager on unusual problems.

  • _ This role has flexibility to support multiple platform teams, both for On-Highway and Off-Highway applications, primarily VPI focused product lines. Responsibility will be as a technical individual contributor however expectations include strong collaboration with peers, and taking opportunity to provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers within MD ATI. Technical depth requires directing or developing calibrations and appropriate documentation to demonstrate compliance to applicable engineering standards / technical profiles / related DVP&R tasks. The calibration tuning scope may include ‘feature and diagnostic / inducement’ tuning experience through E/D/L/P-Phase delivery.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • This individual should have demonstrated ability to be an effective communicator, verbal and written, as both an individual contributor and as a team player in multiple forums, including the engineering community/ upper management / testing facilities, and associated technician support personnel.

  • Should have some demonstrated abilities to not only follow process, but also provide suggestions for process improvement with follow-up to implement those suggestions. Is expected to be an expert at a minimum within the immediate team and over time an expert outside of the immediate team.

  • This individual will own complex components, diagnostics, products or subsystems and capable of system level optimization (manages trade-offs between their home team & a neighboring team). Examples include understanding steady state and transient regulatory cycles and will have chances to demonstrate knowledge of tuning Aftertreatment systems in partnership with Combustion Performance Emissions, CPF, Fuel Systems, and other related system performance integration teams to support delivery of system calibrations that meet regulatory emissions requirements.

  • This individual should ideally have six sigma experience, not necessarily certified green belt, but have demonstrated project completion, with sound understanding of principles and ability to clearly articulate how and when to integrate principles into day-to-day work.

  • This role will also collaborate with Current Product Support / Functional Excellence teams to integrate their calibration content for diagnostics and component level performance (ex: urea dosing system, including DEF quality sensor) and ensure the system level performance is acceptable for the respective applications. This person may also collaborate with research and technology and internal aftertreatment supplier divisions, both controls and hardware [i.e. CES].

  • This person should also have ability to provide direction to a test cell, including aligning test cell and hardware resources, test writing, monitoring testing results and adjusting to issues as they arise, analyze/conclude / make recommendations post-test with final documentation.

  • This person is expected to not only learn and apply Team Based Work Principles but help champion them to junior engineers within team.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science (or equivalent degree) in Engineering required

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience .
