Qualifications

This is an exciting opportunity for Electronic Controls Engineer – Technical Advisors #IN589 in Columbus, Indiana.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Apply knowledge of multivariable control systems, adaptive control systems, supervisory control systems, stochastic systems, system identification, and estimation methods to participate in one or more sub areas of control or diagnostic system design and development.

  • Specify control and diagnostic system requirements, developing and implementing control or diagnostic system concepts.

  • Design, implement, and calibrate MIMO controllers for engine subsystems.

  • Apply signal processing techniques such as Fourier analysis for the development of diagnostic algorithms.

  • Utilize estimation methods such as Kalman Filtering to develop virtual sensors for various engine state variables.

  • Utilize Matlab/Simulink and rapid prototyping methodologies and environments to perform experiments and analysis in order to validate, calibrate, and improve the embedded diagnostics or control algorithms.

  • Perform rapid prototyping of control concepts on tools such as dSPACE, and embedded controls code development for Electronic Control Module (ECM).

  • Employ structured problem solving techniques to identify root cause and resolution of system interaction issues.

  • Provide documentation and support to associated technical teams who will use these algorithms, as well as technical reports provided to regulators for certification purposes.

  • Guide and direct internal experimental work related to detailed characterization of performance, durability and diagnostic transparency of engine air-handling and fuel sub-systems.

  • Develop verification & validation test plans for new control/diagnostic algorithms.

  • Coordinate research initiatives in the department and oversee the procedural and experimental aspects of the projects.

  • Guide design and development of advanced experimental and analysis tools.

  • Lead the development of Analysis Lead Design tools for various engine sub-system technologies in order to conduct experimental evaluation of different sub-systems for analyzing the function, determining performance, evaluating durability and operational strategies.

  • Review reports of current and potential technologies and monitor the performance of engine performance simulation.

  • Develop diagnostics procedures for evaluation of different engine sub-systems from engine testing and field testing.

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand future engine system requirements.

  • Identify new control requirements and allocate them down to controller subsystems.

  • Plan and execute verification & validation test activities and laboratory tests related to diesel exhaust emissions reduction.

  • Advise junior staff on control system design and diagnostic tests execution to ensure the processes are properly conducted.

  • Develop control system/algorithm architectures for the optimal implementation of the combustion controls for diesel emissions reduction and fuel efficiency enhancement with emphasis on product line considerations.

Skills and Experience Required:

· Control systems including: Multivariable, adaptive, and supervisory

· Stochastic systems, system identification, and estimation methods

· System requirements specification

· Matlab/Simulink and rapid prototyping methodologies

· Engine performance simulation

· Plan and execute verification & validation test activities and related diesel exhaust emissions reduction

· Control system/algorithm architectures.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

· Positions require a PhD in Mechanical, Controls, Systems, or Electrical Engineering, or related field and three years of experience as a Senior Systems or Controls Engineer, Systems or Controls Technical Specialist, or related position.

· Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Mechanical, Controls, Systems, or Electrical Engineering, or related field and four years of experience as a Senior Systems or Controls Engineer, Systems or Controls Technical Specialist, or related position.

WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week [8:00 am to 5:00 pm]

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
